A Retail Toy Company Put AntopiaUSA in Their Box. Here's the Full Story.
Something wild happened this week and I just wrote about it on the blog.
A customer sent me a photo of a retail ant kit they bought at the store. Inside the box — printed in the instructions — was AntopiaUSA listed as the recommended live ant supplier.
Nobody called me. Nobody asked. They just put us in the box.
I've been sitting on this for a few days trying to figure out what it means. Here's what I think it means: the ant-keeping hobby is growing fast enough that retail toy companies are now having to answer the question "where do customers go to get real ants?" And when they researched that answer, we came up. A USDA-licensed operation out of Dalhart, Texas that actually ships live native colonies to most states.
For anyone who picked up one of these kits and is trying to find ants that will actually thrive — not die in a week — that's exactly what we do. We carry native species, we ship with live arrival guarantee, and we've been doing this long enough that apparently retail companies are paying attention.
I don't know what happens next with this company. We haven't heard from them officially. But I figured this community would want to know about it — and if you've got one of these kits sitting in your house right now, we've got you covered.
Browse our current colonies at antopiausa.com. Happy to answer any questions about setup, species selection, or anything else.
